Eating after oral surgery is daunting. Your mouth is still sore, but you're starving and have to put something in your body.

There are many foods that are not only easy to eat, but nutritious and will keep you full. It is important to note that you should speak with the oral surgeon regarding any specifics for after oral surgery care to take the best care of your mouth after the procedure.

List of Recommended Foods After Oral Surgery

The first consideration to make when choosing food after oral surgery is that it must be soft. You cannot eat chips or other sharp, hard food since this can cause further issues when it comes to trying to chew and eat them.

It may also aggravate the area where the surgery was done. Always soft foods for the first few days after the procedure. Protein based foods are also ideal to keep you full and energized as your mouth heals.

•  Tofu, fish, lean beef, chicken
•  Scrambled eggs
•  Oatmeal
•  Yogurt and cottage cheese
•  Applesauce, jello or pudding
•  Smoothies or milkshakes
•  Soup
•  Ice cream

It is recommended that spicy and acidic foods are also avoided after surgery. This can cause pain in the area that was worked on. You want bland, whole foods that you can easily swallow or only slightly chew. It is important to keep the area clean after eating, as well until it fully heals.
