Types of Jaw Pain to Be Aware OfPain anywhere in your body is a sign that there is something wrong. The type of pain, the location of the pain and the length of time that the pain lasts can all play a role in what you do about it. Pain is not something you should ignore. Instead, you should find out what is the cause of the pain and that can help you decide what to do. When the pain is in the jaw, these are some of the things to know about it.

Jaw Pain and TMJ Disorder

Many people suffer from a condition called temporomandibular joint disorder. This affects the joint where the jaw connects to the skull. There are many different issues that cause TMJ. It is possible to treat TM, but that requires a person recognizing the symptoms.

One of the main symptoms of TMJ is jaw pain. The pain can happen occasionally, or it can happen constantly. The pain can range from mild discomfort to debilitating pain. Often times the pain from TMJ will occur when moving the jaw either to eat or talk. The pain can radiate throughout the entire haw and mouth area.

Other Issues that Cause Jaw Pain

While jaw pain is a symptom of TMJ, there are other oral health issues that can lead to pain in the jaw. Cavities and abscesses can see the pain radiate down to the jaw. The pain will continue until the problem is dealt with. People that suffer some type of trauma to the jaw or to the neck may also suffer from pain.

It is important to recognize that the pain you feel in your jaw is your body telling you something is wrong.
