Ways of Keeping Your Jaw Bone Strong Enough for Dental Implant Surgery

Ways of Keeping Your Jaw Bone Strong Enough for Dental Implant SurgeryDental implant surgery involves putting a post into the bone of your jaw. In time, that bone will attach itself to the post and provide a solid base for the crowns that fit on top of it.

Because the posts are put into the jaw bone, the health and strength of that bone plays a role in how successful the implant is. Taking some steps to keep your jaw bone strong is one of the best ways to prepare for successful implant surgery.

Start with the Basics
When it comes to maintaining a strong and healthy jaw, the basics will apply. It is no different than any other oral health issue. The better care you take care of your teeth and gums on a daily basis, the better the health of your teeth, gums and jaw will be. Following good oral hygiene practices is the best way to keep the jaw bone strong for dental implant surgery.

The second thing is to avoid delay. Implants are a great way to replace lost and missing teeth. The longer the teeth are missing, the more loss of bone tissue occurs. The sooner you work to replace the missing teeth, the stronger the jaw bone is.

The Use of Bone Grafts

For many people, when they turn to implants, it is too late to think about keeping the jaw bone healthy enough for implants. They will already experience too much bone loss to get the implants. In these cases, bone grafts can help restore the bone tissue in the jaw and can help rebuild the strength needed for the implants.

The key with bone grafts is giving them the time to work and taking care of your oral health after you get the grafts. Once the bone tissue grows, it becomes possible to get the implants.
