Types of Dental Surgery Most People Need at Some PointIt is a safe bet that before you reach 100, you will probably have at least one dental surgical procedure in your lifetime.

Are you curious about what kind of dental surgical procedures are most common? We have some information on the most common kinds of dental surgeries you might experience.

Tooth Extraction

Many people have at least one tooth extracted during their lives. You may have to get a tooth extracted because your other teeth are overcrowded. You might also need to have your wisdom teeth removed because they are impacted and causing you problems.

People also have teeth extracted because they have cavities that are too infected to save. Also, you may need to have a tooth extracted because they are cracked or broken badly and could cause an infection.

Restorative Surgery

You may need to have surgery to either prepare your mouth for restorative dentistry, or you may need to have surgery to fix tooth restorers in place. For example, if you have lost a few teeth due to accident or injury, you may need to get dental implants.

First, we need to see if you need bone grafts before we place implants. You will have to have a procedure to do bone implants. After the bone implants heal, we will be able to place implants to restore the look of your teeth.

Other Oral Surgeries

There are other surgeries that people have regularly. For example, you may need corrective jaw surgery, especially if you have a fractured jaw. People also have surgery to help with the symptoms of TMD. There are also surgeries to repair damage caused by oral cancer, accidents or injuries.

If you have questions about dental surgeries, don't hesitate to contact us and let us talk to you about oral surgery. That way, we can ease your mind before you come in for an evaluation.
